Intent
Our innovative curriculum follows the National Curriculum, whilst being individualised to the child and allows for creativity and flexibility. It aims to promote the social, moral, spiritual and cultural (SMSC) development of the pupils. We promote British Values and prepare children for life in modern Britain. In this sense, we focus on the holistic child, concentrating on their whole self.
The curriculum has been developed to ensure all pupils have the opportunity to gain the essential skills and knowledge that they need to prepare them for their future successes and life after school. We will support the development of language, literacy, and numeracy, particularly where there are significant learning gaps. This is achieved in a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment, with consistency from staff on every level. This holistic approach fosters positive relationships and enables children to create a love of learning, whilst providing a sound basis for a curriculum, backed with National Curriculum requirements. Provide a nurturing, trauma-informed environment that prioritises emotional regulation, attachment, and safety.
Primrose understands that a pupil’s future can take a path in many different ways after their time here; from transitioning back to their mainstream setting, moving to another mainstream school or onto a specialist/alternative provision. With that in mind, we have created a unique programme of study, that puts the focus on SEMH and academic achievement as one package, through a personalised approach: when a child is regulated and feels safe and happy, then they are ready to learn. We intend to address the challenges that pupils are facing with their education by breaking down their barriers to learning and supporting all pupils to enable them to positively re-engage with learning and promote personal development.
The timetable and curriculum are reviewed annually to ensure compliance with current legislation and guidance and taking into account best practice within special needs education.
The curriculum is planned to provide continuity and progression. It enables pupils to make connections and transfer skills in order to think creatively and solve problems. It also develops pupils’ capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
Equality / Diversity
At Primrose we feel that scaffolding learning is vital in every lesson in order for pupils to make progress in academic and social emotional targets. All pupils will have the opportunity to access a broad and balanced curriculum, suitable for a short-stay provision, whilst achieving the highest expectations set for them. We offer individualised learning plans, ensuring children access appropriate interventions and support alongside their curriculum learning. We will ensure the foundation subject units are carefully selected to best meet the interests, needs, and developmental stages of our pupils, providing meaningful, engaging, and accessible learning experiences. This is also the best practice for our pupils with SEND.
